And we are going to Graceland

Shawn's mom and sister are in town, so we had ourselves a good ole southern day. We headed out to a healthy lunch of fried pickles, fried chicken, slaw and baked beans. No worries, I skipped the sweet tea and opted for water! I only eat fried chicken about twice a year, and when I do it is always from Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken on Front St. here in Memphis. If you're ever in this part of the country and want some killer fried chicken, you have to check this place out!
After lunch we headed off to the home that Elvis bought for $100,000 when he was 22 years old, aka, Graceland. I'm not much of an Elvis buff, but living in Memphis you have to go to Graceland. People travel from all over the world to see where Elvis spent his free time. I would have to say it's pretty weird to go out by the pool and see the graveyard where Elvis, his twin brother that died at birth, his mom, dad and grandma are all buried. Kind of creepy! Here are a few pictures from inside Graceland.

Sitting/Living Room to your right when you walk into the house

Crazy Monkeys are all over the house. This one was in the TV room/bar.

The Jungle Room: where Elvis and the Beatles met, chatted and had a little jam session back in the day. It's kind of fun to imagine them all there.

This is the former racquetball court off the back of the house. It is now filled with records, posters and some of his very famous jump suits.

Elvis' tombstone, it was kind of crazy to think that his body is under there. I have to say that I was a little freaked out.

Crazy Weather

Is the weather in the rest of the country as crazy as it is here in Memphis? Two weekends ago it was 75 and sunny. Last weekend I woke up to this.I know to those of you who live in the snow, this is no big deal, but in the south, the city pretty much shuts down. I think we had 6 inches.

Yesterday started off with major thunderstorms and hail, and today looks like it will be pretty nice, sunny in the low 60's. That's all for the weird and wacky weather report from Memphis!

Great Read

I just finished Jeannette Walls' Memoir, The Glass Castle. My dad gave it to me for Christmas (with some help from my sister.) It was an wonderful book, and there were many times I thought that I must be reading a fiction book. Her memory and story telling are top notch. If you're looking for your next book, this is a great one to pick up.

She's Crafty

For those of you who know me well, you know that arts and crafts are not really my cup of tea. Well, I decided that it was time for me to turn over a new leaf....a creative leaf. My friend Bridget and I were part of a 4 person baby shower throwing team, and it was our job to make a diaper cake. I was a little nervous, but Bridget is crafty, so I got over my fears. Long story short, Bridget is in law school and had a major paper due on Friday, so I went out and got all of the supplies. I even went to Hobby Lobby, damn that place has a lot of crap! The diaper cake turned out great, and the mother to be has a cute and practical gift! Here are a couple of pictures from the cake making event.
